The boys and I are having a fine summer holiday at Camp Kemptville, where the program is pretty impressive. It includes canoeing and water sports (sprinkler, water balloons, wading pools and daily trips to "the big pool" on a summer membership), woodcrafting (bluebird house made from scratch with Grandpa), field trips, picnics, and a wide variety of improving activities. Jamie is largely toilet trained now, and can swim with floaties and a great deal of confidence. He can also pedal his tricycle and steer it accurately, and glide nicely on his LikeaBike. AJ walked seven steps without anyone's finger to hold on to this evening, and has a vocabulary of considerable but uncertain size - broader receptive language, but a definite group of sounds he repeats consistently with meanings. When he's hungry, he smacks his lips, says MmmmNamNamNam...and says "banana".

We've been here three weeks, and will be staying until late August. The weather, while warm, has been very fine; we've cornered the market in sunscreen and perfected methods of coercing youngsters to stay in the shade. As far as Jamie in particular is concerned, every day is a good day just now; it's really nice to see!
