I'm just in from a couple of medical appointments. I've been cleared to resume normal life - all healed properly, I'm told! - and AJ has weighed in at 10 lbs 7 oz, 23 inches in height, and healthy as can be. See?

On Saturday we're all going up to Kemptville for Hallowe'en; my mother has made black cat costumes for the boys, and I'm hoping Jamie can be persuaded to stay still for a little black nose and whiskers...and several photos. Mama Jane and Paul are going to Toronto and to see to things elsewhere in Ontario, leaving on Tuesday, and then my family will follow to Toronto on Friday for the weekend. AJ is being baptized at Saint Thomas's Church at 11am on Sunday, November 7. We've heard a rumour that George Morley might be going to be dunked on the same day, but so far it remains hearsay.

Jamie is two. His birthday isn't until December 7, a little over a month away, but you have only to spend an hour or so with him to hear his full vocabulary of two-year-old language: "No! Up! Come! I *neeeeed...*!" and the old fallback, "Scrreeeeeeeech!!!" If he's started to act two early, will he move out of this stage early as well? (Hah!)

As for me, I'm getting a fair lot more sleep than I had expected with a six-week-old in the house. I've turned back into a milk cow, but that's entirely as expected. I'm not losing the extra pounds quickly enough to please myself, but I probably should have expected that. All seems to be going very well indeed. Are we missing something somewhere???

After what must have been the fastest four weeks in history, my mother left today. We miss her already; Jamie noticed right away when he woke up that she had gone, and was sad on and off all morning whenever he remembered it. I'm finding the house very empty, and am washing her sheets and towels with a melancholy air. AJ is sleeping; he's pretty imperturbable. Except that he wasn't impressed with being put down in his bucket for so long this morning while I was feeding and clothing his big brother and packing a daycare lunch. AJ is used to being in someone's arms pretty well whenever he's awake!

We're settling in very well together. AJ eats a lot, and sleeps well. Unfortunately, he has his first cold already...poor little creature!
