Last week and the week before, it was starting to cruise...this week it's climbing. Climbing stairs, boxes, carseats, high chairs, playpen sides...people...
On the one hand, it tires him out.
On the other hand, it tires me out!
We returned to Brooklyn yesterday via Newark. I'm not in a hurry to do that again. The monorail that connects the airport to New Jersey Transit trains was fine. The train was also fine. Penn Station, however, was NOT fine. It's a horrible rabbit warren of a station, all sprawling and badly signposted. I had Jamie in his carseat/stroller, the big black suitcase, the baby carrier backpack, my black leather pack with heavy electronic equipment and diapers in it, a food backpack for Jamie and my handbag, and we must have walked for half an hour trying to get out of the lower level of the station and find the taxi stand. Not so much fun.
Jacqueline Chilton - old friend from Andersen Consulting days, now living in Louisville with husband Lewis and expecting baby Jessica at Christmas - has come to stay with us for a couple of days. We've always had lots and lots to talk about, but now with babies on the subject list, we may not shut up for the next two days straight. But we do have a situation to resolve. We inflated our lovely tufted air mattress for her last night, and she tried it out and said she thought she'd be fine on it, and we all went to bed. This morning we woke up to find her huddled in a crunched little ball on our narrow settee: the air mattress had leaked drastically in the night! I felt terrible...of course the mattress had never shown signs of leaking before, but it would have to pack it in when in use by an expectant mother! The rubber around the valve has split; we'll have to replace it today, since it's not just Jax tonight, but Jeremy Tankard next week and other guests after that for which it's wanted.
Yesterday afternoon when I got home, I went to the Met to refresh the grocery supplies for the house, and I brought back a BIG pumpkin. If I remember correctly, it was .29/lb, and it cost $5.41. That means it weighs only slightly less than Jamie! I've markered on a fierce black face, so Jamie can play with it for the next few days; on Hallowe'en I'll carve it and put it outside. We received a huge box - literally, a banker's box - full of chocolate mini-bars and kisses and stuff from one of Paul's clients a few weeks ago, so I have plenty of treats to give out! I must say that I like it when Paul works for chocolate and alcohol companies. The odds of desirable freebies are better that way than when the client is a media company, say, or a telecom, or makes industrial goods!

Time flies...we're back from the UK, where I managed to put Jane's computer out of service completely, so I had no Internet access during the Exeter visit to speak of. Jamie apologizes for not updating his website for so long; he says he'll try to get the new videos and photos up in the next few days.
Urgh...the little rascal managed, after several months of determined effort, to break my glasses frames today. They weren't even that old! I'm off to the optometrist's when he wakes up from his nap. Sigh...

Just a quick post to say that Jamie and I survived the flight to Heathrow, the train to Paddington, and the other train to Exeter. Now it's almost 11pm, UK time, and I'm hoping to get a boy to sleep soon...hoping.
We're here until the 21st and I'll try to be entertaining in subsequent posts!
